My Story

Hi, I’m Sharon.

I’ve always had a great love & passion for baking. It all started when I was a child, kneeling on a dinning chair watching my mum bake. At only 5’, I still need that chair in my kitchen today! I found out later in life that my Grandad was a baker, so it must be in the blood!

I started cake decorating back in 1995 after having my two daughters. I would make their birthday cakes for them. It wasn’t long before family & friends wanted me to make cakes for them too.

In 2006, we moved to New Zealand. After a couple of years of being there & having just relocated to New Plymouth, I decided to see if anyone would be interested baked goodies. One morning I got up early, baked 48 muffins, popped them into a big basket I had bought & off I went to workplace to see if I could sell them. I was so nervous, but I entered each place with a big smile & cheery “Good Morning”. I introduced myself, told them what I did & asked if anyone would like to purchase my freshly baked goodies. How could anyone resist, fresh out the oven & that beautiful smell wafting through the air. I went home that day with an empty basket. I sold the lot! My little round was born. I would go out 3 times per week with a basket full of freshly baked goodies. I soon became known as “The Muffin Lady”.

My passion was still the decorated cakes. I noticed in New Zealand, there wasn’t many cake decorating suppliers or shops. So, I decided to do something about this. I sourced suppliers in New Zealand & the UK, found a suitable shop to rent. That’s when All About Cakes was born. I sold cake decorating supplies, took orders for celebration & wedding cakes. I ran classes, workshops & did demonstrations. I became very busy. After 3 years, working very long hours, sometime 6-7 days per week, it became too much. That’s when we moved back to the UK, to Warrington.

Back in the UK, the one thing I wanted to do the most, was go to Windsor Cake Craft. I’d seen them advertised in the cake magazines, the largest cake decorating shop in Europe. I was so excited & it was amazing. As we walked in, my daughter noticed a sign advertising for staff. I had a conversation with the Manager. Told her all about my experience, I knew all the brands & how the tools worked. She told me she would speak to the owners & would let me know. About 10 minutes later she came back to me. She said “they want to know when can you start? I was astonished & started the following week. I spent 3 very happy years working there. I worked on the shop floor, customer service, ordering supplies & finally supervisor for the Cake Academy. We would run classes, exhibit at wedding fairs, take cake orders & workshops. I left in 2015 because a lot happened in a short time in my personal life. I needed to concentrate on me.

I now live in a little village in Alfreton, Derbyshire. I love the peace, quiet, scenery, the trails & overall beauty Derbyshire has to offer. I set-up my home-based business December 2021. This allows me to do what I love whilst being at home & helping to care for my fiancés mother who has Parkinson’s. Whilst I was concentrating more on wedding cakes, January 2023 I decided to change this. I am now known for floral cupcakes, cupcake bouquets.

My business has gone through some changes & there are still more exciting things to come.
